GTA 6 Development Hampered by the Continued Success of GTA Online

It has been reported countless times that “Grand Theft Auto 6” would likely come out anytime from 2018 to 2020. However, developer Rockstar Games has yet to make any confirmation about it and it is unlikely for the company to do so anytime soon.

Based on previous reports, the reason why Rockstar Games has not yet started working heavily on the development of “GTA 6” is because it is currently working on the open world Western action-adventure video game “Red Dead Redemption 2.”

Accordingly, the game developer shall be able to focus on the development of “GTA 6” once the company officially releases the upcoming game later this year after the game’s likely unveiling at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 in Los Angeles in June.

However, there are now reports coming out saying that in addition to the ongoing work on “Red Dead Redemption 2,” the development of “GTA 6” is also being hampered by the massive success of the “GTA Online.” Rockstar is apparently making a lot of money with the online multiplayer version of its game so it keeps on releasing updates and fresh DLCs.

Rockstar is reportedly focused on releasing new contents, deals, and special events for “GTA Online” more than concentrating on “GTA 6,” reports Yibada.

A proven money-maker

The game developer has obviously found out that its strategy has proven to be very profitable, which is comparable to most popular mobile video games today.

While “GTA Online” is a free-to-play game, it has nonetheless several microtransactions to help gamers improve their gameplay experience.

Rockstar is reportedly earning a minimum of $500 million from these microtransactions in “GTA Online” and the information is actually based on the lawsuit filed recently by former Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies against Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

Critics believe that the amount seems plausible because there are more than eight million gamers who play “GTA Online” on a weekly basis.

Given the huge success and profitability of “GTA Online,” Rockstar surely has the right reasons not to focus just yet on the development of “GTA 6.” In fact, critics also pointed out that Rockstar has yet to release a DLC for “GTA 5” because they also find it unnecessary given the immense success of “GTA Online.”

Maintaining the key aspects of ‘GTA Online’

There are also speculations going around saying that Rockstar Games shall actually replicate the key aspects of “GTA Online” when it starts concentrating on the development of “GTA 6.”

Now that they already know the recipe or formula for profitability, it is almost sure that Rockstar will make the most out of it and continue to focus on the lucrative aspects of the next iteration of its popular games.

There are plenty of cool-looking games in the video game market these days and the “GTA” games certainly are among those but some critics believe that one game that actually looks better than “GTA 4” and “GTA 5” is “Mafia 3,” notes What Culture.

Although “Mafia 3” is part of those so-called outsider video games looking in, it actually delivers a better storyline than the popular “GTA 5.”

Accordingly, “Mafia 3” has a far more serious story and meaningful narrative than “GTA 4” while “GTA 5” played things way too safe and had too much money riding on it to take any real risks and it shows.

However, the proof of the pudding is in the eating and as there are plenty of gamers who ‘eat and practically breaths’ “GTA 5” more than any other video games, the developers of “Mafia 3” can only ogle in jealousy.

Meanwhile, the year 2018 marks the fifth year from the time that the “Grand Theft Auto 5” was released on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 in 2013. The game eventually made it to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 the following year.
