2015 E3 Highlights: Xbox and PS favorites

The Last Guardian – PlayStation 4

Another holy crap moment from Sony was the reveal of The Last Guardian and that it is still in development with aspirations of it actually coming out. The trailer looked great and that bird/cat/eagle/dog type thing still looks incredible. From the people who gave us Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian sure does have a lot to live up to… especially with such a long time in development.

Rare Replay – Xbox One

Microsoft had a couple of surprises as well. Even the most diehard Xbox fan has to admit that Microsoft has used Rare horribly since acquiring the company over ten years ago. But the Replay is a great way to show some love for Rare and its history. Rare Replay is a collection of 30 Classic Rare games. The selection is pretty spectacular with games from the 80’s like Sabre Wulf and the 90’s Battletoads arcade game is also available, which has never been released outside the arcade. Classic Nintendo 64 games like Conker and Banjo Kazooie are included as are some Xbox 360 games like Viva Pinata! This collection is amazing and literally offers hundreds of hours of gameplay.

Uncharted 4 – PlayStation 4

Being a huge Uncharted fan, I of course mention Uncharted 4, which you know looked amazing. A more grizzled and older looking Drake was back with Sully and it looked like what you would expect an Uncharted game to look like, only a lot prettier. Developers showed off an amazing driving section where you’re hauling ass in a 4 X 4 over crazy terrain while on the run from bad guys. One thing’s for sure: this is going to be a monster of a hit on the PS4 later this year.

Sea Of Thieves – Xbox One

Rare was under the spotlight a bit at E3, this time with a swashbuckling, pirate adventure game called Sea Of Thieves. This is going to be a huge online multiplayer game where you can live the life of a pirate by taking part in battles on land and the open sea, stealing treasure and just generally getting up to no good. Not a ton was revealed about this game, but it certainly does sound interesting. And really, there are not enough great games where you get to play as a pirate.

Horizon: Zero Dawn – PlayStation 4

Here is a PS4 game that I am personally most excited about and that is Horizon: Zero Dawn. We see a pretty badass looking woman hunting with some kind of tech infused bow and arrow, but what is she hunting? Well it turns out she is hunting all these amazing cyborg looking animals with the coolest one being a robot T-Rex. The story of this game has really captured my imagination with its post-apocalyptic world and robot animals. It has been said that this is going to be similar to the Monster Hunter games, which is fine by me!

Rise Of The Tomb Raider – Xbox One

I think the reboot of Tomb Raider was one of the best reboots of any game series we have seen on any console generation. Rise Of The Tomb Raider showed off some new game play footage at E3 and it looked amazing. This was already one of the most highly anticpated games, but seeing Lara traverse the snowy mountain just made the game seem all the more real. This will be released on Xbox One later this year, but it is expected to be on Playstation 4 at some point in 2016.
